Forgiveness Is Not About Them — It Is About Setting Yourself Free

Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood words in the English language.

Many people resist it because they think it means:

  • “What you did to me was okay.”
  • “I am letting you off the hook.”
  • “I have to pretend it never happened.”

But that is not what forgiveness means at all.

True forgiveness is not about the other person. It is about you.

What Happens When You Hold On

When someone hurts you — and you hold onto that pain, anger, or resentment — you carry it in your body and your energy field.

Every time you think about that person or that situation, your body relives the pain all over again. Your stress rises. Your energy drops. Your body tightens.

And the other person? They may have moved on completely and never think about it.

But you are still carrying the weight.

Holding onto resentment is like drinking something bitter every day and wondering why you do not feel well.

Forgiveness is how you put it down.

What Forgiveness Really Means

Forgiveness means:

  • “I am no longer willing to let this take up space in my energy field.”
  • “I release this so I can feel lighter, freer, and more like myself.”
  • “I choose my own peace over holding onto this pain.”

It does not mean you have to stay in contact with that person. It does not mean what happened was right. It simply means you are choosing yourself.

A Simple Energy Practice for Forgiveness

  1. Sit quietly. Put your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Ground your body — imagine a connection from the base of your spine to the center of the earth.
  3. Smile gently. Relax. Breathe. No effort.
  4. Think of one person or situation you are ready to release. Just one.
  5. Imagine any heavy energy connected to that person — pain, anger, sadness, resentment — releasing down your grounding. Let gravity do the work. You do not have to push it. Just allow it to go.
  6. Say quietly to yourself: “I release this. I choose my own peace.”
  7. Now fill the space with a warm golden-yellow light — pouring gently into your aura, your body, and every cell.
  8. Breathe slowly. Smile. Notice how your body feels.

You do not have to carry old pain forever.

You are allowed to put it down. You are allowed to feel lighter. You are allowed to choose peace — not for their sake, but for yours.

That is one of the greatest gifts you will ever give yourself.
